Watchmen? Meh. [Sep. 6th, 2008|04:58 pm]
Christopher
So I finished Watchmen today, since the trailer came out looking so awesome.

The trailer was better. I think this is going to be a case where the movie will be better than the book. I also think that the trailer's visuals are much, much better than the graphic novel's. (This might be my own lack of vision, as I normally don't read graphic novels.)

I mean, the ending was a bit predictable (not the specific occurrences, but overall). I think there were a few too many characters (I hear that the movie will be cutting out a few of them, so that might be good), and only a few were really fleshed out.

And don't get me wrong: it wasn't bad. But I'm not all OMFG THAT WAS TEH BEST GRAPHIX NOVEL EVAR.

I think you're not including Watchmen in context. So much modern stuff borrows so heavily from it, that what was revolutionary when it was published is probably old hat to you.

It's much harder to appreciate in 2008 than in 1986.
